There are lots of myths and misconceptions about how you can get HIV.

Besides what was listed in the video, other ways HIV is not spread include:

1. Air or water
2. Mosquitoes, ticks or other insects
3. Saliva, tears, or sweat that is not mixed with the blood of a person with HIV
4. Engaging in closed-mouth or “social” kissing with a person with HIV
5. Other s3xual activities that don’t involve the exchange of body fluids (for example, touching).

Note that HIV can’t be passed through healthy, unbroken skin.

HIV can instead be passed on from one person to another via the following bodily fluids:

1. Blood
2. Sem3n (including pre-cûm)
3. V4ginal fluid
4. Breast milk. 
5. Rectal fluids

Important to note that HIV infection occurs when infected bodily fluids get into your bloodstream for example through:

1. Unprotected S3x(including S3x toys)
2. From mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding
3. Injecting drugs with a needle that has infected blood in it
4. Infected blood donations or organ transplants.

People with HIV who take HIV medicine daily as prescribed and get and keep an undetectable viral load have effectively little to no risk of s3xually transmitting HIV to their HIV-negative partners.

Myths and misinformation increase the stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV and AIDS in the process blocking access to HIV testing and treatment services, making onwards transmission more likely. 

Ending the stigma towards HIV and in the process removing the barriers to these services, will be key to ending the global HIV epidemic.
