After the birth control pill, condoms are likely the most commonly used contraceptive method used by sexually active individuals.

They are easily accessible and affordable and can also be gotten for free at certain facilities but people still hesitate before using them.

Condoms when used correctly are a great way to prevent pregnancy, avoid STIs giving you greater control of your sexual health.

Just like many other contraceptive methods, here a few myths about condoms that you might have believed in the past.

1. So, condoms are not a one size fits all but they do come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and textures.
When it comes to using external condoms, size does matter and a malfunction can occur if poorly sized. And no do not let anyone convince you that they can’t use a condom because they “are too big”

2. You can make right or wrong choices when it gets to using lubricants with condoms. Oil-based lubricants can increase the risk of breakage of latex condoms. Water-based lubricants should be used with external latex condoms. Oil-based lubricants are fine with polyurethane external condoms.

3. Doubling up on your condoms due to fear of, or for extra protection against STIs or pregnancy is a really bad idea. In reality, it actually puts you at more risk as it could tear from friction. This is why one condom is all you need. This applies to 2 male condoms and also to male and female condom use.

4. This is the only fact listed in the video. While it’s true that condoms are not 100% effective at STI prevention, scientific research has shown that condoms significantly reduce your risk for spreading and contracting all types of STIs and STDs.
