The human body although really cool can sometimes be pretty weird…making sounds that are not expected at the worst times.

A queef is an involuntary sound that’s made by trapped air being displaced or forced out of the vagina.

It is actually very common and is also known as vaginal flatulence or vaginal farts.

You might hear a sound similar to a fart when the air is released, however, unlike flatulence/fart, it should not emit any odor.

Most of the time, it happens during physical movements such as exercise, yoga or sex and even during childbirth.

In some rare cases, a queef can be a sign of a more serious medical condition or issue that needs addressing like pelvic floor dysfunction and vaginal fistulas. With vaginal fistulas, you will have other associated symptoms besides queefing.

However, if you are queefing regularly and have had one or more pregnancies( with concerns for pelvic floor dysfunction); or are concerned about a vaginal fistula, talk to your doctor.
