Most infected women are asymptomatic. If left untreated, about 10-15% of women will develop PID. 

PID and an infection involving the upper genital tract (which may be without symptoms) may cause permanent damage to the fallopian tubes, uterus, and surrounding tissues, which can lead to infertility.
