Virginity testing also referred to as the hymen exam is an inspection of the female genitalia designed to determine whether a woman or girl has had vaginal intercourse. 

This practice has no scientific or clinical basis. There is no examination that can prove a girl or woman has had intercourse. 

The appearance of the hymen cannot prove whether they have had intercourse or are sexually active or not. 

It is a violation of the rights of women and girls and detrimental to the wellbeing of women and girls and so should be discouraged.
