“When I was a freshman here, I was told that “commuters don’t get involved…they come here, go to class, and go home.” That year, I decided I was going to prove everyone who’s ever thought that way wrong, even if I didn’t know who “they” were, and show MSU that commuters could do anything a resident could. I live by the motto of “why go through life unnoticed?” So over the course of those next five years, I was involved in The Normal Review (a literary magazine on campus), Newman Catholic, MSDC, SLAM, SGA (as a Legislator & Class I rep.), PLAYERS (where I became Secretary one year, & President the next), & Theta Delta Sigma (as a Charter Sibling who helped establish the colony on campus with 14 other amazing people), all while holding a job off-campus. While I don’t necessarily know who “they” are when they think that commuters can’t get involved and make this campus their home away from home too, I hope they’re out there reading this and thinking “wow, he did it. He proved me wrong. Now it’s my turn.” #RHOMS #RedHawkPride #CarpeDiem #SeizeTheDay #RedHawkLife #ProveThemWrong #GetInvolved - Bobby Serrani (24) from Nutley, NJ. - 2nd-year grad student in the Educational Leadership in Higher Ed.
