Since today is a day for love stories, I’ve got one for you. The world of dating apps can be strange. Just over two years ago I got Bumble which my brother told me, “is supposed to be better than tinder”. One night I downloaded the app, and I began the quest to swipe through face after face. After matching with a few people, it was time to try and spark up a conversation. As I considered who to write to first, I decided to write to some dude named Blake (no last names are included on Bumble). I opened the conversation with, “You probably won’t believe me but this is the first bumble message I’ve ever written“ Blake very cleverly replied, “Do you mean actual first ever time, or first bumble message you’ve ever written that you now copy and paste in to every convo.” And all I could think was, this guy is a genius. Haha He asked why he earned this honour, and it was simply because he had a picture of him rowing (He competed competitively during university as well as some national team stuff) so when I noticed that, I figured if we had nothing else, we could at least talk about sport. 
When Blake asked what sport I did and followed up inquiring about what specific event, I responded “400m hurdles”. I had no pictures of my running or any mention of sport in my profile so he had no idea until I said that. A light bulb went off in Blake’s head where he replied, “Oh wow, you’re Sarah Wells”. I was both flattered and embarrassed - since this was my first hour on bumble and I had already been caught... I asked how he knew that and he said he remembered watching my race during the Olympics. I just assumed he was lying cause what are the chances, and though he probably just googled “Sarah Runner Hurdles Canada”. Fast Forward, we book our first date and, I BAIL!!!!! a few hours before... I know! 🤷🏼‍♀️ I didn’t realize who was on the other end of that date. I would have never had I known! •
