When this happened today, my heart exploded!!
• At every one of our Believe Summits, we make a massive circle consisting of hundreds of students and ambassadors. They line up shoulder-to-shoulder while I stand in the middle to take them through a series of statements. If that statement feels true to them, they step in to the circle. I say things like, “I use to believe I was the only one who doubted myself”, “I use to believe that I was too weird to be cool”, “I use to believe that I wasn’t enough. This allows the students to see how many of them have felt that way - they can see that we all deal with doubt and imposter syndrome. Today, when I read the most powerful statement of the bunch, magic happened. I said “I used to believe that I was alone”. One student not only took a step in to the circle, but he took like 10 steps to come all the way to middle, to me. It was so beautiful to see him be so vulnerable in front of his peers. He clearly had felt that way, very strongly. I instantly reacted and said “You’re amazing! Thank you for being so brave!” His classmates then erupted in cheer to support their friend who had felt alone. It gave me goosebumps and reminded me how lucky I am to have an opportunity to impact these students. The work we are doing is so important and is more than fulfilling. Thank you to all the ambassadors who help amplify this message and to our sponsors who make these events possible. I am so incredibly grateful!
