Dr. Sharif Bey, artist and professor of art and art education at syracuseu, credits the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild as a formative space in his career as an artist. His mixed media sculptures explore the cultural significance of ornamentation and have appeared in solo and group exhibitions, both local and national.

“Adolescence can be somewhat of a storm. The arts can shelter kids during that complicated period. You got to grab onto something and hold on. Grab your guitar, grab your loose leaf paper: write something, draw something; sing something, sculpt something; dance. And what we hold onto grounds us and helps us find the time to negotiate who we are or who we might become.” – Dr. Bey
