## Caption

This cyanotype—the largest in our collection and only on view for three months due to light sensitivity—is more than an architectural or engineering map. While the document was useful in 1924 to illustrate the Pennsylvania Railroad, almost one hundred years later the cyanotype illustrates how railroads and rivers formed the Pittsburgh we know today.
.
There are familiar neighborhood and township names. City boundaries and bridges are marked. Steel plants and other major businesses are noted. Pittsburgh’s industrial heritage is on full display. But you can also interpret what has changed in the city over the last century.
