Marita Garrett, vice president of Wilkinsburg's borough council, discusses the town's strengths and challenges. She cites the current revitalization of the Ardmore Boulevard corridor, a project targeting 67 blighted properties for rehabilitation or demolition, as an important step in addressing negative perceptions of the town. Garrett, who has been on council for four years, also stressed the importance of being proactive in governance. Last month, she announced her candidacy for mayor. Garrett believes that the role of mayor needs to become more ambassadorial, much like John Fetterman has done during his tenure as mayor of nearby Braddock. —newtonmatthew #cmoastoryboard
