10 years ago, Manny and I met on a blind date. Friends had set us up and thankfully they joined us because Manny was two hours late. I wasn't being stood up - he was late because he was driving from the Keys. I recall multiple phone calls and texts apologizing for the delay while we waited. I don't really know why I didn't get all in a huff and leave, I just thought I'd wait. ⁠⠀

He finally arrived, leaving us only an hour and half left to hang out before my curfew.⁠⠀
When we saw each other for the first time he said, "Wow, you're really pretty." That was a relief lol. We hit it off immediately. We felt like magnets - same banter, humor, edge. We agreed to a second date, then I sped on the highway to make my midnight curfew.⁠⠀

And here's the kicker, Manny was still a complete stranger to me. There was no "talking" period, we went straight to dating. Unlimited text plans were not the norm back then, so communication was brief. For our second date, Manny had offered to pick me up. ⁠⠀

I get a text that reads he's outside my parent's house (obvs still living with them at the time). I open my front door and this man is standing there. I immediately close the door behind me and I'm like lets GTFO to avoid the family getty happening in the kitchen. To which he responds that he needs to come in and meet my family.... I say why?! And he rationalizes that I'm about to get in a car with a stranger and they should know who he is... Can't say no to that logic 🤨.⁠⠀

And in all my cringe-worthy feels, I introduce Manny to my mom, dad, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, dogs, etc. I'm not even sure I remember how I introduced him. I think I said something in Spanish along the lines of "This is Manny; I have a date with him now." jajajaja.⁠⠀

Anyway, life gave me a true gentleman and a real partner. Manny takes care of me in ways I never even dreamed of. He protects, pushes, supports me in absolutely everything I do. And if you know me, I do a lot. We are the luckiest people in the world with a good dog to boot. Te amo, Yambia, hasta el cielo.⁠⠀
