Ah, nuts! Most squirrels aren’t naturally clingy, but some learn that humans are a reliable source of tasty snacks. Same.

Unfortunately, that can lead to a relationship that’s a little too…familiar. Think less cute woodland friend, more Nandor the Relentless. One minute, you’re offering a tiny treat. The next, your furry little creature of the night (but mostly days) is haunting your porch, demanding trail mix, and expressing an affinity for creepy paper and colorful dust that sparkles.

And remember: some creatures need an invitation to enter. Squirrels just need to see you holding a granola bar. Before long, you’re being stalked by a tiny Nut-sferatu that drains your snacks, your patience, and possibly your will to…go on hikes. A real pain in the neck. Or, more precisely, the ankles. Unfortunately, squirrels that get used to handouts can become dependent on human food, lose their natural fear of people, and struggle to forage for their own meals.

So, while it may be tempting to invite a cute squirrel to join your meal, resist the urge. No snacks, no invitations, no familiars. Keep your food to yourself and let wildlife remain wild. Fang you very much!
