Experience Universal Orlando’s most spine-chilling attraction yet: a cutting-edge dark ride that plunges guests into the eerie catacombs beneath Frankenstein Manor. Inside, Dr. Victoria Frankenstein invites visitors to witness her twisted genius as she attempts to control a legion of monsters in her secret laboratory. But when her bid to subdue Dracula goes disastrously wrong, a horde of enraged creatures is unleashed. From that moment on, guests embark on a heart-pounding journey through pitch-black passages, pursued by The Wolf Man, The Mummy, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Brides of Dracula, and countless other fiendish foes.

Universal Epic Universe is a theme park in Orlando, Florida, that officially opened on May 22, 2025. It is Universal Orlando’s third theme park and fourth overall. Situated within a 750-acre (300 ha) master plan, the park is divided into five distinct lands: Celestial Park, Dark Universe, How to Train Your Dragon—Isle of Berk, Super Nintendo World, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter—Ministry of Magic.

Groundbreaking began in August 2019, but the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the original completion schedule back. Early announcements provided limited information about the park’s themed areas and rides, with Super Nintendo World being the final land confirmed in early 2023. Signature attractions include the motion-based dark rides Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry and Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment; the dual-track racing coaster Stardust Racers; and an augmented-reality dark ride, Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge.

Dark Universe celebrates Universal’s Classic Monsters with a modern twist, unfolding within the shadowy confines of Darkmoor Village. Dr. Victoria Frankenstein, descended from the original Victor Frankenstein, who continues her family’s legacy of resurrecting the undead, is at the heart of this land. Her experiments extend to attempting to control other legendary creatures, such as Count Dracula, to prevent them from wreaking havoc on Darkmoor Village. The “Dark Universe” moniker resurrects a previously shelved Universal franchise that was intended to reboot the classic monster canon but was canceled after the underperformance of The Mummy (2017).

In late 2021, patents surfaced for a new motion-based dark ride incorporating technology reminiscent of Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey; this attraction was later unveiled as Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, which employs KUKA arm systems. Another marquee attraction, Curse of the Werewolf, is a Mack Rides–built spinning coaster that launches riders through scenes inspired by Maleva and the Guild of Mystics from the 1941 film The Wolf Man. Dining in Dark Universe includes Das Stakehaus—a garlic-free, vampire-themed steakhouse—The Burning Blade Tavern, a medieval-inspired bar, and the quaint De Lacey’s Cottage.
