An epic thank you to the Universal Orlando Resort fans from Universal Destinations & Experiences Chairman & CEO Mark Woodbury and the entire Universal Orlando family!

Universal Epic Universe, set to debut on May 22, 2025, in Orlando, Florida, will become Universal Orlando Resort’s third theme park (and fourth overall) upon opening. Encompassing a 750-acre development, the park will be divided into five immersive lands—Celestial Park; Dark Universe; How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk; Super Nintendo World; and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic.

Groundbreaking began in August 2019, though construction timelines were pushed back by the COVID-19 pandemic. Initial details about Epic Universe’s attractions were scarce, but information gradually emerged, with Super Nintendo World confirmed as the final land in early 2023. Signature experiences will include the motion-based dark rides Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry and Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment; the dual-track racing coaster Stardust Racers; and the augmented-reality adventure Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge. Preview events for the park kicked off in March 2025.

The moment thrill seekers and theme park enthusiasts from around the world have been waiting for is almost here: Universal Epic Universe, Universal Orlando Resort’s groundbreaking new theme park, officially opens this Thursday, May 22. One of the most immersive and innovative theme parks ever created, Epic Universe transports guests to five imaginative worlds filled with extraordinary adventures: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Dark Universe and Celestial Park.

Dark Universe
Dark Universe, home to the Universal Classic Monsters, is designed as a contemporary continuation of the iconic monster films. Set in the ominous Darkmoor Village, the area's storyline follows Dr. Victoria Frankenstein, the great-great-great granddaughter of Victor Frankenstein, who carries on the family legacy of reanimating the dead. She strives to contain and control various monsters, including Count Dracula, to prevent them from wreaking havoc on Darkmoor Village.

In late 2021, patents were filed for a motion-based dark ride using technology similar to that of Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. This was later revealed to be Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, a dark ride utilizing KUKA arm technology. Another attraction, Curse of the Werewolf, will be a launched spinning coaster manufactured by Mack Rides, themed after Maleva and her Guild of Mystics from The Wolf Man (1941). Dining options in Dark Universe include Das Stakehaus, a vampire-themed steakhouse with a garlic-free menu, The Burning Blade Tavern, a thematic bar, and De Lacey's Cottage.

In June 2024, it was announced that Danny Elfman would compose the music for the land.
