Woo Hoo! Welcome to Springfield, U.S.A., the home of the Simpsons. Shop at the world-famous Kwik-E-Mart after a thrilling indoor simulated roller coaster ride with Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, and other fan-favorite Simpsons characters! Enjoy a real Krusty Burger, a giant Lard Lad Donut, or other tasty treats from the Simpsons-themed eateries.

Springfield is a chain of themed areas at Universal theme parks in Florida and Hollywood, based on the town of the same name from the long-running American animated television sitcom, The Simpsons.

On September 7, 2006, Universal Studios Florida announced that Back to the Future: The Ride would close in the spring of 2007. Universal Studios Hollywood followed on July 23, 2007, with a closure date of September 3, 2007. Florida’s version shut down on March 30, 2007, and Hollywood’s on September 3, 2007. Just weeks before Florida’s closure, on April 24, 2007, Universal Parks & Resorts announced that both parks would replace the attraction with a new, Simpsons‑themed experience. In October 2007, Kwik‑E‑Mart merchandise shops—complete with Squishees, the show’s playful take on Slurpees—opened at each location, and The Simpsons Ride debuted in Florida on May 15, 2008, and in Hollywood on May 19, 2008.

In 2012, Universal Studios Florida closed the nearby International Food and Film Festival to make room for Springfield, which began rolling out in summer 2013. The first phase—Fast Food Boulevard, featuring Krusty Burger, Moe’s Tavern, The Frying Dutchman, Cletus’ Chicken Shack, Flaming Moe’s, Lisa’s Teahouse of Horror, and Luigi’s Pizza—opened on June 1, 2013. On August 2, 2013, the land expanded with Lard Lad Donuts, Duff Gardens, Phineas Q. Butterfat’s Ice Cream Parlor, and Bumblebee Man’s Taco Truck, followed by Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ’n’ Hurl on August 11.

Universal Studios Hollywood unveiled its own Springfield on May 13, 2015, marked by a dramatic “meltdown” of the Nuclear Power Plant façade and a fireworks celebration. Executive producer Al Jean and The Simpsons voice actors Nancy Cartwright (Bart), Yeardley Smith (Lisa), and Hank Azaria (Moe) attended the opening. This new area replaced classics like Doc Brown’s Chicken and Flintstones Bar-B-Q with eateries such as The Kwik-E-Mart, Moe’s Tavern, Duff Brewery, Krusty Burger, Luigi’s Pizza, Bumblebee Man’s Taco Truck, Cletus’s Chicken Shack, Phineas Q. Butterfat’s Ice Cream Parlor, and Lard Lad Donuts.

When Disney announced on December 14, 2017, its intent to acquire 21st Century Fox—and closed the $71.3 billion deal on March 20, 2019—many wondered how Disney’s new ownership of The Simpsons would affect Universal’s Springfield. Universal immediately reassured fans that the merger would have no impact on the ride or guest experience.

Universal Studios Hollywood’s Springfield area debuted on May 23, 2015. Like its Florida counterpart, it’s anchored by The Simpsons Ride simulator and a host of themed quick‑service spots—Krusty Burger, Lard Lad Donuts, Duff Gardens, Moe’s Tavern, The Frying Dutchman, and Cletus’ Chicken Shack—replacing longtime favorites such as Doc Brown’s Chicken and Flintstones Bar‑B‑Q.

Beyond the eateries, visitors can wander through beloved Springfield landmarks: Springfield Elementary School, The Kwik‑E‑Mart, Android’s Dungeon, the Aztec Theater, Springfield Penitentiary, Herman’s Military Antiques, and the Springfield Police Department.
