Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Some Like It Hot, Rear Window, Singin’ in the Rain, Vertigo, The Maltese Falcon, 12 Angry Men, Dr. Strangelove, Psycho, It Happened One Night, An American in Paris, West Side Story, A Star is Born, The Third Man, Marty, The Best Years of Our Lives, To Kill a Mockingbird, All About Eve, The Sting, Ben-Hur, Gold Diggers of 1933, The African Queen, Bonnie and Clyde, Rebel Without a Cause, The Philadelphia Story, The Dirty Dozen, From Here to Eternity, All Quiet on the Western Front, The Bridge on the River Kwai, North by Northwest, Some Like It Hot, The Big Sky, The Great Dictator, Network, The Producers, The Life of Emile Zola, The Lost Weekend, On Golden Pond, All About Eve, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, La Strada, Dr. Strangelove, The Sound of Music, The Godfather, Lawrence of Arabia, and Bonnie and Clyde. TCM Movies, previously known as TNT and Turner Classic Movies, was a British premium television channel dedicated primarily to classic films. It predominantly featured movies from the Turner Entertainment and Warner Bros. archives, including numerous MGM titles. It also showcased movie-related profiles and select classic American TV series. On October 15, 1999, Turner Classic Movies debuted on the Sky Digital and NTL cable platforms. The inaugural film broadcast on the channel was the 1946 classic, *The Big Sleep*. Unlike Cartoon Network, which had already shifted to a subscription-based model, TCM remained accessible as a free-to-air channel. Following TNT's shutdown, TCM temporarily continued TNT’s weekly WCW programming on Fridays through a separate feed. Eventually, the WCW shows were transferred to the Bravo channel. On June 30, 2001, both Cartoon Network and TCM ceased their analog satellite broadcasts as part of Sky’s transition away from analog services. In January 2004, TCM transitioned to an encrypted format on Sky Digital. In 2009, Turner Classic Movies underwent a visual rebranding, introducing a new logo and updated graphics to attract a younger demographic. This refresh also expanded the channel’s film library with additional titles. A high-definition (HD) version of TCM launched on September 4, 2012, coinciding with the standard definition (SD) channel switching to a 16:9 widescreen format, while Turner Classic Movies 2 continued to broadcast in the traditional 4:3 aspect ratio. On March 2, 2009, Turner Classic Movies UK sold its Sky Electronic Program Guide (EPG) slot following the closure of Travel Channel 2. Turner Classic Movies +1, a one-hour timeshift service, was introduced on August 13, 2013, replacing Turner Classic Movies 2. The HD version of the channel was discontinued on Sky on July 25, 2019. On August 1, 2019, Turner Classic Movies was rebranded as TCM Movies. The channel ultimately ceased operations on July 7, 2023. Some of its former film content was transferred to the sister channel Quest. The final film aired on TCM Movies was *Murder Most Foul*, and the last piece of content before the channel’s closure was a close-up segment honoring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Academy Awards, commonly known as the Oscars, are annual prestigious awards that recognize excellence in the film industry.
