I'm not a bankruptcy expert. But WOW are these two bankruptcies wild in their reach and impact on the sports creative world.

My take on both:

LIV: Fresh Tape Media did a massive production for earlier this year. We paid our crew, delivered the work, and are now owed over $1.2M that we may never see.

We're lucky that Fresh Tape is in a position to take a hit like this and keep moving. But there are a LOT of creative businesses that couldn't. And it's pretty crazy how much financial risk production companies take on just to do their jobs.

The one side of this that's not talked about is the LIV team. The creatives we worked with there are so good at their jobs. I know they've either already landed on their feet somewhere new or will soon...but I'm telling you, they're good eggs.

Getty Images: This one hits a little differently. There are tons of incredibly talented sports photographers whose careers and livelihoods are connected to Getty.

At Gondola, we feature work from Getty photographers all the time. It's a big part of the sports creative ecosystem, and honestly, I don't think most people realize how much of the content they see every day comes from these folks. Getty says photographers will continue to get paid through the restructuring, which is great. And thankfully, Gondola isn't dependent on Getty's business. Our focus has always been on the creatives and their bodies of work, regardless of which companies they work for or distribute through.
I think that's the part of both stories that fascinates me most. We spend so much time talking about the value of sports rights, leagues, media companies, content libraries, etc.
But what about the people who actually MAKE all this stuff?

I've spent my entire career working with creative people in sports, and I can't remember another time when two companies this influential in our world were going through something like this simultaneously.
Really curious what the long-term ripple effects are going to look like.
