You've heard Charlie Bereal's guitar a thousand times. You just never knew his name.

On this episode of BroBible Side Quests, the Grammy-nominated guitarist and producer behind Aaliyah, Missy Elliott, Mýa, and Jay-Z tells the stories behind the songs, from Pasadena church pews to Snoop Dogg's Death Row Records.

Charlie Bereal is one of the most in-demand session guitarists of the last 25 years, even if his name never hit the marquee. Raised in a musical family and schooled in the church, he was touring with gospel legend Donnie McClurkin by 13 and playing for Aaliyah straight out of high school. From there he laced guitar on classics like "More Than a Woman," "One Minute Man," and Jamie Foxx's "Do What It Do," co-wrote Mýa's "My Love Is Like…Wo," jammed with D'Angelo, and worked with Jay-Z, Kanye, Raphael Saadiq, and more. Now, after nearly walking away from music entirely, he's come full circle, signed to Snoop Dogg's Death Row Records for his album "Walk With the Father."

We get into all of it: the church roots, the legendary D'Angelo "Maggot Brain" session that George Clinton blessed, the streaming crash that shut him out, the leap of faith that had him turning down Usher and a Jay-Z and Beyoncé tour, and a live guitar breakdown of the sounds that shaped him. Plus his top five most influential albums and the dream supergroup he'd assemble with an unlimited budget.
