This #FashionFriday we are looking at one of the most useful accessories ever created-the pocket! In the 18th century, pockets were not necessarily sewn into the garment, but were a separate piece tied around a woman's waist like a belt, and worn under her dress and petticoats. Slits in the fabric of a gown allowed access to the hidden pockets. Despite their utility, pockets disappear around the turn of the century, but why? Check out this week's Fashion Archives blog to see how fashion ideals have played a part in women's access to pockets over the centuries (link in bio).
