## Caption

This #FashionFriday we look into an evening dress from the early 1820s. The tarlatan dress features several interesting design elements including a delicate floral print, a vertical ombre dye pattern, and rouleau (a pattern made with piping) trim on the hem and sleeves. The tarlatan is quite fragile, so our Fashion Archives team took exceptional care in rehousing this beauty! Scroll through to see details and the final rehousing! Evening dress, 1820-1823, 1956.84.6 Gift of Mrs. Olive Rutter Parks and Miss Mary Alice Rutter #fashionfridays #fashionhistory #marylandhistory #1820sdress #1820sfashion #19thcentury #19thcenturyfashion #tarlatan #ombredress #vintagefashion #vintagedress #rouleau #floraldesign #vintageeveningdress
