## Caption

This teal silk-taffeta gown belonged to Ms. Emma Sophia Brauns as a part of her #trousseau. She married Mr. Louis J. Keidel on July 11, 1866. This dress speaks to the frugality of women of the era, as it includes two separate bodices, one for day-wear and one for evening-wear.

The costume collection at the Maryland Historical Society boasts many rare survivals which will be highlighted during Alexandra Deutsch's richly illustrated lecture, "Out of the Box: The Costume Collection at the Maryland Historical Society" on Thursday November 3. Curator Deutsch will detail the discoveries made this summer by our Costume Interns, who rehoused hundreds of dresses in our collection, such as the Brauns dress, in order to preserve, and, in many cases, save them.

Attendees will be offered a rare opportunity to see selections from the collection, many of which have not been on view at MdHS for decades. See link in our bio and link to our Costume Collection blog to read about Intern Emily Bach's research. #vintagefashion #fashionhistory #fashion #cool
