This week we pulled a Claire McCardell dress #OutoftheBox and it is stunning!  The vibrant red and black plaid wool dress features vertical accordion pleating from shoulder to hem, a large pointed collar, and an attached belt to cinch the waist.  A Maryland native, Claire McCardell created a uniquely American style by turning her back on the French influence of the time and instead looking to the lives of American women for inspiration.  She was known for self-tailoring dresses, menswear detailing, and wrap-and-tie styles like that seen with this dress from the mid-1940s.
