Soldiers from the Idaho Army National Guard’s State Aviation Group returned home over the past few days after spending nine months supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in the AFRICOM Area of Responsibility.

The C-12 detachment, which consisted of four Soldiers, deployed in late February to the Horn of Africa. The detachment flew more than 700 hours under all weather conditions and in heavily degraded and dynamic environments.

“We are proud to welcome these Soldiers home in time for the holidays,” said. Brig. Gen. Farin Schwartz, commander, Idaho Army National Guard. “This might have been a small-unit deployment, but they had a huge impact on the success of the mission.”

Idaho’s citizen-Soldiers directly supported the ground force commander, transporting more than 32,000 pounds of cargo and 600 passengers while executing more than 100 missions.

In 2010, the unit deployed to Afghanistan in support of Task Force Odin. They returned to Afghanistan in support of Task Force Caesar in 2013. In 2015, the unit deployed to Bogota, Columbia, and to Kuwait in 2016 in support of Spartan Shield.
