BOOTS ON THE GROUND: Idaho’s Brig. Gen. Farin Schwartz, CW5 Ed Barnowski and Command Sgt. Maj. Kevin Dean, along with Nevada’s Brig. Gen. Troy Armstrong, greeted nearly 300 Soldiers from the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team as they landed at Fort Bliss, Texas, tonight upon returning home from Southwest Asia after a year in support of Operation Spartan Shield. The Soldiers were part of Task Force Griz, which deployed last November.

“I am extremely honored to greet these great Americans as they return from their yearlong deployment,” said Schwartz. “I can’t think of another job out there that asks for this sort of commitment. It takes a special person to sacrifice a year away from their family to support their country when called upon. I want to thank each and every one of these Soldiers for stepping up for this mission.”

The majority of the returning task force is comprised of 116th CBCT Soldiers, which was commanded by the Montana Army National Guard’s Lt. Col. Corey Swanson. Idaho Soldiers comprised nearly 20 percent of the task force, along with Soldiers from the Florida, Montana, Nevada and Oregon Army National Guards who also deployed with the 116th CBCT in support of the mission.

OSS is a joint mission under the United States Central Command and is part of Operation Enduring Freedom. The task force was relieved earlier this month by another 116th CBCT-led task force, Task Force Rattler, which included more than 600 Idaho Soldiers and will return home after a year of mobilization.

Soldiers will complete the demobilization process at Fort Bliss, Texas, before returning home. Additional information regarding their homecoming will be made available in the future. #welcomehome #soldiers #operationspartanshield #taskforcegriz #idahonationalguard #nevadanationalguard #oregonnationalguard #deployed #deployedlife #itwasalongyearwithoutyou #nationalguard #army #armylife #idahome #theresnoplacelikehome
