More than 400 Idaho National Guard personnel returned home from Washington D.C. Wednesday after volunteering to serve at our nation’s capital guarding monuments, buildings and other property throughout the National Capital Region. The five-day mission at the National Mall and Anacostia Park included guarding the Washington, Lincoln and Jefferson memorials. “Everything we encountered was very peaceful,” said Lt. Col. Ben Cook, task force commander. “Our posture was soft so we didn’t carry weapons, wear helmets or body armor, just our basic uniform. Coming here to not only protect monuments and sites but protestors was historic and gave each one of us something to reflect upon.” Personnel were screened for COVID-19 symptoms prior to leaving Washington D.C. and again upon return. Service members will self-isolate for 14 days before returning to their civilian careers. #idahonationalguard #armynationalguard #nationalguard #idahoarmynationalguard #idarng #116cbct #welcomehome #alwaysready #alwaysthere
