Pictured below is Pfc. Farin Schwartz and his son, Cole. Today Brig. Gen. Schwartz serves as the assistant adjutant general - Army and commander of the Idaho Army National Guard and his son is a first sergeant in the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team (Official), "The Idaho Army National Guard has always been my first choice, since 1984 when I joined 35 years ago as an enlisted radio teletype operator. Realistically, it is the best choice I made in my entire life. It has positively impacted my family and I’ve passed it on as a first choice to two of my children who have had successful careers in the Idaho Army National Guard.

Some people look at it as a fall back plan. But if they really do the analysis on it, they’ll see that it should be their first choice because it’s a choice that will enable them to do anything they want to in life. You have multiple choices to what you can do, but at the end of the day when taking that path to go left or right, the guard is the right choice. You can serve your country, community and yourself.

It was my first choice because it enabled me to serve the U.S. Army in the Idaho Army National Guard and has given me far more than I’ve given it. I’ve been able to realize my dream of staying in Idaho, the land and country that I love, and serving my country through several deployments. I feel very fortunate that I was able to do that. The opportunities that you get through membership in the Idaho Army National Guard are second to none." #FirstChoiceFriday #idahonationalguard #nationalguard #idahoarmynationalguard #116cbct #armylife #soldier #soldiers #armyfamily #likefatherlikeson #familybusiness #mudlake #flashbackfriday
