## Caption

As Halloween approaches, we have been highlighting some of the odd, creepy, absurd, or stranger cuts from our print shop at the Sacramento History Museum, especially from the Lewis Winter Collection. In this video, Channey letterpress printed two electrotypes (copy of a woodcut) that were made by Lewis Winter (his name is in the corner of the larger print) about 120-125 years ago. Both depict the same image but in different sizes of an old nursery rhyme that begins with “This little piggy” and Howard recited the rest. This print shows a hand with a pig representing each part of the nursery rhyme. A version of this print appeared in W. Gannon’s “Mother Goose's Nursery Rhymes, Tales and Jingles,” which was published in 1902. Winter seemed to make his own rendition of it. This was printed with orange oil base ink using our Washington hand press, which was made in 1852. #SacHistoryMuseum #halloween #spookyseason #museumtok #printing
