In honor of Halloween season, we thought we’d make something festive in the blacksmith shop at Sutter’s Fort that fits the occasion. In this video, Jared demonstrates the same blacksmithing methods available in the 1840s at Sutter’s Fort by making a steel skull from a section of flat stock. The bellows pumps air into the forge where the iron or steel is softened to a working temperature to be shaped with a hammer on the anvil. This type of blacksmithing work is a great example of the use of chisels and punches to make a finished project. Want to see the the blacksmith shop in operation? Come visit during our Demonstration Days on the second Saturday of each month from 10am to 4pm. Sutter's Fort State Historic Park is a California State Park located in the Midtown Sacramento, California. #suttersfort #castateparks #halloween #museumtok #blacksmith
