Have you ever made waffles over a fire before? Waffles have been around for centuries but there is no definitive evidence that waffles were ever cooked at Sutter’s Fort in the 1840s. Because cast waffle irons existed and all ingredients would have been available at the Fort at the time, waffles could have been possible. With that said, we wanted to make some waffles. After all, June 29th is National Waffle Iron Day! In this video, Jared and Gavin cook some waffles in the kitchen at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park. The waffles were cooked using a cast waffle iron that was made over 100 years ago.
