It’s California’s 175th birthday and we’re throwing a block party to celebrate the historic day!

Join California State Parks and the Sacramento History Museum on Tuesday, September 9th, from 6-9pm and enjoy music, food trucks, family-friendly activities, and a laser display 30 minutes after sunset as we celebrate this historic milestone.

Free food truck fare, birthday cake, and California-grown treats will be available (while supplies last).

In this video, Howard helps spread the word of the event by letterpress printing “California’s 175th Birthday Block Party CA State Capitol September 9, 2025” in 30 point Caslon font. The image of the State Capitol in the 1890s is from an electrotype (copy of a woodcut) from the Lewis Winter Collection. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press.
