## Caption

On July 29, 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958, establishing the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). 

For today, Howard letterpress printed with the largest wood type in our print shop at the Sacramento History Museum for this occasion. “NASA” was typeset in 30 line pica (about 5 inches) in French Clarendon font. This wood type was made in the late 1880s by the Hamilton Wood Type Company. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press.
