## Caption

On March 14, 1942, Sacramento experienced an unusual storm that blanketed the city with a couple inches of snow. The Sacramento Bee newspaper reported that “this city and other communities took on a carnival spirit as young and old alike turned out to play in the first snowfall in many a year.” It was the heaviest snowfall in Sacramento in over 26 years. It began to snow around 1pm after the temperature dropped 12 degrees in an hour.

Very little traffic accidents were reported, however, a street car did derail near the Southern Pacific depot. Roofs were severely damaged on the Bert McDowell Wholesale Grocery Company at Front and J Streets, and also at the Lester Motor Company warehouse at 1212 G Street.
