## Caption

When it comes to letterpress printing, everything that one prints has to be .918 of an inch, also known as Type High. Because finding wood that fits that height requirement, sometimes woodcuts were recycled and a new engraving was made on the other side. We have some double sided woodcuts in our shop and we are highlighting the largest one today because November 6th is the start of National Recycling Week. This woodcut from the Eleanor McClatchy Collection shows a very detailed building (that has been cut in half) on one side and the other side depicts something that has left us puzzled. What do you think the print represents? In this video, Jared letterpress printed both sides of the woodcut using our Washington hand press, which was made in 1852. #SacHistoryMuseum #NationalRecyclingWeek #recycle #printing #letterpress #woodcut
