## Caption

Things are looking a bit spotty because today, January 22nd, is National Polka Dot Day! For today, Howard letterpress printed an image from two hand-carved woodcuts, made about 130 years ago, from the Lewis Winter Collection. 

Lewis Winter, who had a wood and photo engraving office at 627 J Street in Sacramento from 1888 to 1910, designed a lot of cuts of clothing items and fabrics for advertisements in local newspapers. If you saw these images in  the newspaper, would it entice you to buy the fabric? This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press.
