## Caption

January 31st is National Backwards Day! While we don’t have any obscure woodcuts illustrating something being done backwards, people often note that the letterpress printing process is backwards. It is often described in books that a compositor sets type from a type case upside down and backwards. However, it is also referred to as setting type upside down and left to right. In this video, Howard demonstrates setting 24 point Caslon from the type case and how to use a composing stick. #NationalBackwardsDay #backwards #SacHistoryMuseum #museum #sacramento #letterpress #typography
