November 29, 1924

On this day in 1924, the Glenn Dairy Company opened their milk pasteurizing and bottling plant at the southwest corner of Q and 31st Streets (today Alhambra Boulevard). It was owned and operated by C. P. Inderkum and Edwin Betschart. The Sacramento Bee newspaper devoted one and a half pages of the day’s paper discussing the building that was built at a cost of $120,000 and that it “stands as a concrete indication of the growth of the city and her industries.”

The Bee also included advertisements for all the companies associated with the construction and furnishing of the new establishment. The plant consisted of a two and a half story main building and an adjoining one-story building for deliveries and for a garage to house delivery trucks. The Glenn Dairy Company building was vacant before it was converted in the early 1980s into commercial office space.
