ICYMI: Something very special happened this weekend at UTSA Commencement. ❤️ Rene Neira, 87, crossed the stage with his granddaughter, Melanie Salazar. 🎓🎓

The two began their academic journey together at PaloAltoCollege. Then they enrolled at UTSA.

Rene is terminally ill and in hospice now, but he’s just a few credits away from earning his bachelor’s degree in economics.

On Saturday afternoon, Melanie pushed her grandfather across the stage to receive his Degree in Recognition while she received her B.A. in Communication.

The crowd erupted into applause as Rene and Melanie received their diplomas together.

Congratulations, Rene and Melanie, and birds up! Welcome to the UTSAAlumni family. 🤙
