Wow, the beginning of a new lockdown, a different world. So I’m going to be prioritizing our mental health as much as our physical health during this extraordinary time. And two of the most effective ways I know of using our interiors to support this is by using colour and by ‘bringing the outside in’. .
.
As you may have realised, I live my life in colour! In fact, I’ve always been really sensitive to the effects of colour. Take this living room for example. When we moved in last year, all the walls were the clay colour that you can still see above the picture rail - and although sooo many people on here commented on how gorgeous it was, I actually found it really oppressive. It literally felt like a weight on top of me that I had to fight every time I walked into the room. So that’s why I’ve started changing it to this cool duck egg blue. And oh my god it is such a relief! Now when I walk in it feels like I’m breathing fresh air and being healed with coolness. It’s actually why so many hospitals are painted in pale blues and greens. Did you know that the NHS has even commissioned reports which conclude that using colour in the right way can improve your wellbeing and recovery?
.
.
I also wanted to show you this view, so you could get just a peak through the window of the huge monkey puzzle tree in our front garden, which is a bit of a landmark in Crystal Palace! I’ve also changed up the coffee table with more luminous glassware and lighter flowers to make it feel just a little bit more like a garden. .
