Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mums out there!! I’m sparing a particular thought for all the elderly mothers who can’t be visited by their children today due to isolation and social distancing, especially those who don’t have access to visual Comms like FaceTime and skype. .

Another huge virtual hug goes out to all the fellow single mums who are steeling themselves for weeks, perhaps months of isolation on their own with very young children. God, I really feel for you!! I’m lucky, because although I’m on my own, mine are a perfect age for this - 10 and 12, as they are pretty independent and old enough to help. But I WAS on my own with them from the ages of 9 months old and 3 yrs old and at times it nearly broke me. .

So the things that I learnt helped the most were getting enough sleep, by hook or by crook (watching movies together in bed is a great sneaky way of grabbing a bit extra!); keeping most of the recycling for craft projects; being creative with them; extending dummy use if necessary; routine; and interestingly, meditating, which had a remarkable effect on my ability to cope with the stress from moment to moment. The final thing was Facebook. I was forced off Facebook when I was with their dad, so the sheer joy of reconnecting with friends all over the world over a glass of wine in the evenings (I couldn’t afford to go out) was a lifeline!! Hurray for social media at times like these! Good luck to all of you, take it 10 minutes at a time. You’ve got this! .

So all of you incredible mums out there, take a bow!! I’ll be having a luxury bath and putting my feet up for most of today. In my dreams 😂
