Instead of watching the last episode of The Informer on iplayer (OMG sooo good!), I sorted out the entrance hall to our flat in preparation for 100s (I hope!) of people traipsing through it for my show over the next two weekends. I keep forgetting to take ‘before’ pictures, but swipe for a sort of one, where I had already painted the white walls blue/grey and the cupboard was built but not painted. .
.
Why is the colour scheme so simple and muted, I hear you ask!! Well, as I live in a rental flat within a detached house, I share an entrance hall with the artist who lives in the flat below me - and our colour aesthetic is entirely opposite from each other! In truth, I have always dreamed of having a really bright, saturated orange front door. But when I suggested this to the other artist (with a few splashes of pink here and there, I said), he visibly started sweating in a panic and his eyes started darting around to find help. He countered with muted blues or greens. Since he actually owns his flat, I felt it was only fair to agree. So alas, still no orange front door, but hello teal door!! I LOVE it! And the other artist loves it too! .
.
Then Coco and I built this cupboard for our coats and shoes on Saturday night and I painted it yesterday. You may be surprised to know that it’s actually the same blue as the walls, but next to the bright teal it looks pale grey (that’s colour theory for you!). Adding the basket with some pink hats and scarves artfully trailing out (obvs!) adds warmth. Finish off with cute puppy and now, all I see is pretty! .
