National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week began in 1981 and offers a time for much-deserved thanks for our Dispatchers. It is this week, April 9th – 15th.
Witnessing our Dispatchers working first-hand is an eye opening experience. As you listen to them answer calls from scared and concerned callers they use their steady and controlled voices to calm them down and do their best to help them until your fire/paramedic(EMT) crew arrives on the scene. If you were to have recently visited the Dispatch Center, you could have listened as a Dispatcher took a call from someone who needed to do CPR on their loved one. You'd have heard the dispatcher calmly and professionally coached them through until the crew arrived to take over. Our Dispatchers do this without seeing the scene of the incident, only imagining what could be going on. When the crew arrives, the Dispatcher disconnects the call and it’s on to the next caller. There is no closure, there is no processing what they just heard, there are only sounds left to replay in their heads. Here's to OUR Dispatchers and all Dispatchers out there! #nationalpublicsafetytelecommunicatorsweek #Dispatchers #thankyou #PublicSafety #911CallTaker #911 #Mesa mesaazgov
