"When you think about these issues, it's like, ‘Okay, what can one person do to really change the world or stop the pandemic?’ But I think if we focus on the people who really need the help, we can make a change."

After spending her summer interning at Pfizer, Natalie Vázquez '22 developed a passion towards changing the public health sphere - a path she never considered before the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The only reason why I even knew about the internship was because I had just gotten my vaccine from Pfizer. I literally would have passed the email like it was nothing, but I saw it and I was like, ‘Wait, they do internships?’ so I applied. It was a compliance division internship. Honestly, it's not anything I was interested in, but they were so open with me and it really opened my eyes. I thought I wanted to go to law school - and I kind of did - but I was like, no, I definitely want to get my master's in public health.” 

Her goal?

“I want to make healthcare accessible and help communities that are underrepresented understand healthcare. So I think I want to focus on healthcare literacy. Health affects everybody. It doesn't matter if you're in school; it doesn't matter if you don't have any type of education. It's really hard for people to understand health, so I think that's what I want to focus on, just communities that are underrepresented, marginalized, and helping them access health care and really understand what's best for their health.”
