Ibim Soibiharry; Moi Je Brule, Je M'en Fous

“Moi Je Brule, Je M’en Fous” explores the somewhat juvenile desire to risk life, limb,
and mental health in pursuit of creating art for one’s personal enjoyment.

Moi Je Brule, Je M'en Fous was created and exhibited at the Malaise Mansion in
2024, near the end of undergrad. At that time, for Ibim, everything that did not involve or
contribute to creating art was a waste of time. She abandoned schoolwork, sleep, and
sometimes friends to focus on random creation.

Moi Je Brule, Je M'en Fous explores that feeling and that mode of being where one is
directed purely by passion, by love. A kind of love that eats you up and destroys you, but
you are okay with feeling its teeth crushing your bones because it feeds you and gives you
life and fills your belly with fire. It is about exploring a crush, someone/something you are
enamored with, and contemplating eloping with. It asks how far you will go for your
passions, for art. It is loud, it is jarring, and it is hot.

If you stripped me down to the very bones, I believe you would find love right there. However, this is not a “holding hands around a campfire and singing” kind of love. It is more akin to a guttural scream and all-consuming fire. It is this love that sets me ablaze and gives
light to my work. I hope to blow on some embers in people’s hearts and set them alight with the drive to
create and explore all the media their hearts are set on.
