After nearly two decades of legal disputes, Clark County commissioners have approved an $80 million settlement with Gypsum Resources, allowing the long-contested housing development on Blue Diamond Hill near Red Rock Canyon to move forward.

This decision aims to avoid a potential $2 billion liability that could have jeopardized the county’s financial health.

The approved settlement will be funded through the county’s capital improvement fund, which is designated for one-time expenditures and not eligible for employee salaries.

Union representatives expressed concerns about the reallocation of funds, arguing that it could exacerbate the county’s staffing crisis and negatively impact public services.
