Happy 119th Birthday Las Vegas! On May 15, 1905, the town site of Las Vegas was established during a land auction held by a railroad company. Several thousand people, including many from Los Angeles and Salt Lake City, Utah, congregated to buy parcels in the 20 blocks that were being sold by the future Union Pacific Railroad.
