🔥 Hot take: No job should be completely remote.  🔥 

I got your attention, didn’t I? 😂

Okay, let me clarify. I don’t actually believe that every job needs to be in person. Some roles can absolutely be done remotely, and I appreciate the flexibility that comes with working from home.

But as someone who works at George Mason University, I’ve come to appreciate something about hybrid work: the power of spontaneous interactions.

Sometimes, the best collaborations don’t start with a scheduled meeting or a carefully crafted email. They start when you run into someone on campus while grabbing coffee, taking a walk, or heading to lunch.

I’ve sent emails that went unanswered for months, only to run into someone in person and receive a response the very next day. 😂

Those unexpected interactions can spark ideas, strengthen relationships, and create opportunities that might not happen otherwise.

For me, hybrid work offers a balance. We can honor the different identities, family responsibilities, personal priorities, and commitments we all have while still creating opportunities to connect face-to-face.

My hot take? Maybe we don’t need to be in the office five days a week, but we shouldn’t underestimate what happens when we show up in person.
