☀️Lemon Curd Linzer 🤚 Cookies for Klara and the Sun☀️ These bright and sunny 😎 lemon cookies are an homage to Klara and her near-religious reverence for the sun. They also have a “window” aspect to them to rep how Klara is constantly observing everything around her and is often disconnected from being fully involved. These are a recreation of the cookies I designed for foodnetworkmag and shout out to the magazine for also giving me early access to this incredible book 😍.

Not gonna lie to you...I started feeling guilty about how I speak to Siri after reading this book 🙈. Klara is an “AF,” artificial friend, who has made it her singular mission to learn everything about and serve her human, Josie. The way she observes emotions, especially the negative ones, is marked early on as rather unique for an AF to be able to do. She picks up on “signals” and the smallest of microexpressions and tries to extrapolate the meaning from them. It’s a commentary on us - and in the way we view and use “machines” like Klara is a reflection on us. It’s also about loneliness. It felt like a future that is not far away from ours now, with increased pollution, increased dependence on machines/AI, and even screen schools for the richest kids where they struggle now with social skills and communication IRL (yikes that hit too close to home...).
☀️
Overall, it’s a tremendous book - where Ishiguro gently pulls you along an almost plotless book but somehow you’re entranced! I don’t know how he makes the unfamiliar feel extremely familiar and almost every book he writes feels like an allegory of sorts. It’s great - and will get you thinking!
