What an PHENOMENAL book. This is writing at its best, and I was instantly drawn in by the story of the Vignes twins, and those that loved them. (Also, the audiobook is incredible!)🌿

This is the story of race and identity, and exploring the choice of hiding who you truly are or choosing to own your truth, regardless of the consequences. Written in lulling prose and with a voice that speaks truth, this novel begs the question: what kind of life can you have if you aren’t fully truthful with who you are? Can you erase the past and create a new future? And if so, can you be at peace and have true, knowing love with those around you?🌿

I loved these characters (REESE😍), and the way that britrbennett beautifully wove their humanity and circumstances into people so tangible, you felt as if you knew them. I loved the duality of not only Stella and Desiree’s choices, but also Kennedy and Jude’s...it was such a powerful look at how your past can shape your future without even realizing it.🌿

This story begins as a story of two twins, one who chooses to be Black, and one who chooses to be white, but it develops into a powerful dialogue of the world we live in, the power of one’s past, and the true beauty in owning your truth.🌿

There are so many beautiful themes within this story, and so many who have captured their thoughts on this story much better than I have, but what I will say is this: this book is so moving. It is singular. And I’m so grateful to have read it. Brit Bennett is a powerhouse of an author and this will easily be one of my favorite books of the year.🌿

I also love that this was a gmabookclub choice for June! If you haven’t read this powerful novel, I highly recommend doing so!🌿
