There are elections happening year round and every year. Make sure you're voting in every election. Check out this great video by @maryharman

I vote because, whether we like it or not, elections have consequences. I also believe voting is one of the most effective ways to hold policymakers accountable and get them to pay attention to issues that are important to me.

Common misconceptions are that elections only take place every 2 or 4 years (Campus Select) and that local elections are insignificant. In fact, off-year elections take place frequently and can directly impact our lives! For example, some state and county offices responsible for civil and disability rights issues are not knowledgeable about communication access. Local elections can have a direct role in addressing such gaps.

Also, 1 in 5 people eligible to vote has a disability (@ACLU_Nationwide), making us a key voting bloc. I believe it’s crucial that we have a high voter turnout during any election.

Here are a few examples of how you can get involved:

-Register to vote or check your voter registration status by going to weall.vote/revup

-Attend local events related to your local election such as town halls and request accommodations if needed

-Volunteer to help community members register to vote

-Follow @SignVote to learn about voting resources in ASL

-Vote in your local election!

-Watch out for my next reel, which will cover your communication access rights and elections! #Sponsored #SignVote

Are elections happening in your area this year? What local issues are you paying attention to? Tell me in the comments!
